Conclusion

The Childhood Hunger Organization aims to help others in anyway possible. We fight for human rights and the right to good, nutritious food to support the human body. More specifically we are working hard to greatly improve the number of hungry children and people worldwide. Along with impacting peoples lives and spreading awareness for world hunger.

The CH Organization plans to achieve distribution, creation and spreading acts. Distributing healthy, nutritious food as well as water to places in need. Creating or saving farming areas to better produce food to feed the people in the surrounding areas. Awareness for childhood hunger is key. We want the public to know these issues, become familiar with them and reach out to help.

Public participation is a big part of our organization. Participants are able to donate their money and time to helping the hungry. Spreading our organization by word of mouth and on multiple social media platforms also greatly helps. Large companies and other organizations can partner up with us to improve our world as one.

Participation can be on a small scale as well. Helping a homeless person buy a meal or giving to your local food bank can help improve the world starting with your community.

Many of these people that are in need of help have not had the ability to receive three meals a day and any food on a daily basis at that. Here in America and many other places, we have the great fortune to be able to easily gain access to food. Many of us store food at home and have grocery stores near to buy more. Third world and developing countries don’t have that luxury. CHO will be a way to give these people in need a little bit more of what they deserve.

We do not have the option of where to be born or what family to be born into, therefore we should all be given the same basic chance at life. That chance being everyone should be able to have the basic needs a human body requires on a daily basis to survive and grow strong.

African nation of Burundi

This last post is going to be a little information about the hungriest place in the World, the African Nation of Burundi. Now Burundi has the highest levels of hunger and undernourished people in the world. This place has suffered a lot over a long period of time starting with a war that lasted ten years, and that combined with overpopulation and poverty all came together to create this huge problem. The 2014 report showed the highest areas of hunger are in Africa south of the Sahara. The report describes Burundi and Eritrea as extremely high areas of hunger. Less than one-third of Burundi’s population has enough food to eat throughout the year. As a result, nearly 60% of Burundi’s population is chronically malnourished. These people and kids go days without a meal and never know where the next one is going to come from or what it is going to come from and that needs to change.

 

 

 

 

Now these kids are born everyday just like us. They don’t choose the family they are born into or where they are born, and they can’t do anything about it. But we can. We can the change in these kids lives and we can be the reason that are given the life they deserve. Just by donating money or food you can give these kids something to be happy about and something to look forward to. You can be the change in these kids lives and make them happy

Just like this little girl who got a meal today. She is now happy and stronger just because someone decided that these children suffering was not okay and they did something to help and that’s something that we should all do. We as an organization want to help every child that we can and bring a little happiness to these kids that have had a life that they do not deserve. They deserve to have a meal every single day and not have to worry about if they are going to eat today or the next day and that’s all we want in our organization. Nutrition

Nutrition and food looks like very different things in the eyes of different people. For people in America nutrition and food look like a

• Fat
• Saturated Fat
• Sugars
• Sodium (salt)
•   Proteins
•  Carbohydrates
•  Fibre
•  Vitamins & Minerals

 

 

These are the main key nutrients a day that we need and that we get, but many places do not get close to what they need to live healthy lives. In America we get these nutrients from all the food we eat and are provided but kids in undeveloped countries do not get even close, causing starvation, undernourishment and death. Depending on their age, size, and activity level, toddlers need about 1,000-1,400 calories a day to grow up healthy and strong, but so many kids around the world do not even make it to age 5. Each year, over 10 million children in developing countries die before the age of five. More than half of these deaths are attributed to malnutrition, which claims a child’s life every 5 seconds.

We are so concerned with how the food tastes and looks and how many calories it is, but these children just want something to eat and depend on everyday to keep them healthy. These kids are dying every five seconds and we need to stop it right now. These kids did not choose this life and they deserve a chance to live a happy life past 5 years old, if this would your kid wouldn’t you want someone to help?

It only costs 15$ for you to feed a family for a whole month but instead you choose to go spend that money on something that you don’t really need and while you were spending that one hour spending your money twelve children were dying because they did not get any breakfast, lunch or dinner for the past week. So while I know that we have to care for our families first but in this this situation we need to put ourselves in their shoes and say if I were the one who was not eating and was watching my children suffer, I would want people to do everything they could to help you and not just ignore you.

Kenya’s Situation

Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean.

Almost a third of Kenya’s population does not have enough food, about 10 million people. To add to that, about fifty percent of their people live in poverty.

Undernourishment effects mostly pregnant and breast feeding women along with children under five years of age. Between 2003 and 2009, Kenya’s infant mortality rate had declined but is now on the rise in the recent years. Growth stunting has increased over a third in Kenya, it now affects about 2.1 million. About half (46 percent) of the 18-24 month year old children’s growth is stunted, while eleven percent of children under 6 months have stunted growth.

With undernourished children, our future is being affected and hurt. Some children are dying from the lack of food and good nutrition, that negatively relates to the world’s population. Less people means less help to improve the economy and the environment. It only takes one person with one good idea to start a whole new era of time…

In recent years, Kenya has been enduring an awful drought. A national crisis of a drought was called by the Northern Kenyan Government. Along with nutritious food, the human body and living organisms need water to properly function. With little water in the area, it is clear to see that food prices would rise. The scarcity of water relates to the scarcity of food, because crops need food to grow. Small amounts of crops being grown means prices rise, higher prices are needed to support the farms that farm the crop. The drought is only making the hunger/ malnutrition worse.

If we are able to bring water for the people, most of the other water can be used to grow crops. Hopefully this will lower food prices and increase crop production in Kenya.

The Childhood Hunger Organization is dedicated to what we do. If this method and plan of action does not work, we will get right on a new one. We won’t stop until every hungry and starved person is provided with the nutrition they deserve, a basic human right.

Facts about Childhood Hunger

I wanted to start this blog post with a photo of these girls that have had a very hard life but somehow manger to be happy with what they have and have hope for a future and are depending on us.People say that they know about childhood hunger and how bad it is around the world but many of them don’t know what is really going on and have no idea how bad the issue is. We are going to be sharing some facts about childhood hunger that will really open your eyes on how bad this is and want you to do something to stop it. People know that childhood hunger is a big deal and many are effected, but do they know how many really are. An estimated 795 Million people around the world do not have enough to eat, and that while we are worries about our own country and hunger here people don’t  know that 98 percent of people suffering from hunger live in developing countries. And while people may be worries about disease and all even though that is a big issue hunger kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. So while we are worried about sickness we should be worries and preventing the real killer.

People everyday say that they need this and that to be happy. As illustrated in the photo above it shows what we think is necessary to have while some kids just want a meal and some whatever. This photo is very strong because it shows you really how these children really have nothing, and we have way to much.Death is something that we deal with in our lives on a regular basis. We see death in families, friends and even around the world  and some of these deaths we can do nothing about but what about the deaths we can do something about. Hunger causes the deaths of about 5 million children each year and if we all came together we could drop these numbers so much and give these kids a chance to have a great life. We can help this children even before they are born by getting food to their moms too about 17 million children are born underweight annually, the result of inadequate nutrition before and during pregnancy, that means that even before they turn one they are already underweight and have a worse chance of surviving and even if they did survive they would already be starving because we aren’t doing anything to stop the deaths of millions of kids just because it has nothing to do with us.

People make up excuses about how to get out of donating saying they need to worry about their own family, or they don’t have enough money, but just by donating 15$ you can support a whole family for a month. People need to stop worrying about themselves and think about how if they were the ones starving they would want people to help them, so put yourself and your family and their shoes and please donate today.

Childhood hunger is an issue that many people are familiar with, but how many actually know what they are actually talking about? I’m going to be talking about many questions that are asked about what is really happening in the parts of the world we can’t see. First, a commonly asked question is is child hunger going down? We reply sadly but hunger has been slowly but steadily on the rise for the past decade, gains and hunger reduction have been reversed  (are now going up) as a result of high food prices and global economic downturn. The graph from atkearney.com, above is showing that food prices have been slowly rising for all the necessary food groups that everyone needs and are still rising, which is causing the starvation and worldwide hunger all around the world.

How many people globally do not have enough to eat? An estimated 795 million people do not have enough to eat. The number undernourished people in the world increased by 75 million in 2007 and 40 million in 2008 largely  due to higher food prices. Higher food prices seem to be a huge cause in childhood hunger all around the world and that ‘s why we want to stop it from the source and start making farms and gardens so these families won’t have to worry about the money and not being able to eat that night or feed their children. While 795 million people around the world are starving this is showing that one in 9 kids goes to sleep hunger every single night, something that I’m guessing all of you have never done. Lastly this is a photo (from borgenproject.org/ a website also trying to help with world hunger captures a photo of what a little kid looks like when they receive food. This child goes to bed and wakes up every day not knowing if they are going to get a meal let alone anything to eat at all. But knowing about this issue and not doing anything about the millions of people starving needs to change and we need to come together and make a change.

 

Are micronutrients important? micronutrient deficiencies are very important afflicting nearly 2 billion people worldwide. Deficiencies  of iron, vitamin A and zinc rank among the top ten leading causes of death through disease in developing countries. Getting micro nutrients is not as hard as it seems and only requires eating a little amount f vitamins and minerals and if we can’t get some vitamins and minerals around the world to children who are dying every 5 seconds because we aren’t doing anything to stop it, then we need to do something about the fact that we would never let our children go to bed hungry, and yet millions of kids are going to bed hunger everyday until they die and we don’t think twice about it. Above shows all the food that are in micro nutrients (from .bodyandsoul.com, a website teaching about necessary foods and micronutrients to live healthy). Seeing how many simple foods have something we need so bad can help motivate us to start giving to these kids, start volunteering to build farms and gardens so we can provide as many foods with micro nutrients, that are so critical for a healthy living body that we have to do something about it.

Debates

Childhood hunger is something that people all around are trying to stop but there are many problems and arguments/debates that can happen in the process. These are debates that we made up and thought could come up later in our project, by people who think it won’t work. Our first debate is if we just give these countries food then we would be teaching co-dependence instead of independence.

This photo below is a screen shot from a Youtube video that ethioboy45 made about African Children starving and I wanted to use this photo to show that we are all these children have and worrying about them becoming co-dependent is the least of our problems because these children shouldn’t have to leave to be dependent thins early and they need us and we need to help them get the life they deserve too live.

We responded saying that this may be true that in the beginning they will be depending on us and will be co-dependent, but the Childhood Hunger Organization will help these starved areas, while providing nutritious food until they are up and running on their own.

Also, these are countries that suffer from hunger for years/centuries and never had anyone to depend on and now we are giving them just a little help and going to be starting farms and other food producers, so that eventually they will nit need us and will be able to care for themselves. Our second debate is that the food prices are rising rapidly, while household incomes are not, causing families to not be able to afford food to eat so even if we get them food some may not even be able to afford it.

In response, we are hoping to create farms and gardens in and closer to starved areas and once we do that the food prices will drop due to less labor and transport needed. The photo above shows what we are hoping to get in these countries and near starving countries to help them support themselves and their families.By making creating these farms we are going to be helping families who can usually never get food and when they do they have to use all there money, but by creating these farms we are bringing cheaper food which will create families to be able to provide food, and have money left over to by the other necessities they need to live.

Our Mission

Here at the Childhood Hunger Organization, we are committed to helping those in need to get the essential nutrition needed to grow and develop properly for a better life. By way of volunteer hours, kind donations and teaching we will make the areas in need better.

No child should grow up hungry and malnourished. Every child deserves a fighting chance, we are here to give them that chance.

Volunteers are key, they help make our success happen. People helping to promote our organization, choose new places to help, find more efficient or better ways to help are some of the tasks that our volunteers can preform. Instead of leaving he areas that we help dependent on us, we will work to make them independent areas and self sufficient. We will bring experienced and knowledgeable teachers to the area to rebuild farms to cut the cost of food transportation. A significant part of high food cost is the transport cost, this will eliminate it and move towards lower costs of food.

By teaching the local people new skills and techniques it will make for a better and more sufficient production line to feed the hungry children. With hope and time, those children will grow up and improve their community and the world.

Without a healthy and smart next generation of children on earth, progress in all walks of life will not be improved. And essentially we will be killing our own planet if no one soon reduces the pollution damage done to it. Who wants to see us kill the planet that we live on? No body!
